Dame Amelia Fawcett, DBE

Dame Amelia Fawcett was appointed Chairman of the Hedge Fund Standards Board on 1 July 2011. Dame Amelia is also Chairman of the Guardian Media Group plc, a Non-Executive Director of State Street Corporation in Boston, Massachusetts, where she chairs the Risk and Capital Committee and a Non-Executive Director of Investment AB Kinnevik in Stockholm.
Between 2007 and 2010, she was Chairman of Pensions First, a financial services and systems solutions business, which she helped set up. From 1987 - 2007 she worked for Morgan Stanley, first as an executive and then in a non executive role. She started her career at the US law firm of Sullivan and Cromwell, first in New York then in Paris. She joined Morgan Stanley in London in 1987, was appointed Vice President in 1990, an Executive Director in 1992 and Managing Director and the Chief Administrative Officer for the Firm's European operations in 1996. In 2002 she was appointed Vice Chairman. As Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer, she was a member of the European Management Committee and the Board of Directors of the Firm's major European operating companies. She stepped down from her executive role in October 2006 and was a Senior Advisor to the Firm until April 2007.
Dame Amelia is a Governor of London Business School, a Commissioner of the UK-US Fulbright Commission, and a Trustee of Project HOPE UK. Until recently, she was Deputy Chairman of the National Portrait Gallery (and Chairman of the Gallery's Development Board) and a member of the Court of the Bank of England (and Chairman of the Bank's Audit Committee).
Dame Amelia was appointed a Dame Commander of the British Empire in the 2010 Queen's Birthday Honours List for services to the financial services industry, in addition to being awarded the CBE in 2002, also for services to the financial industry. She received The Prince of Wales's Ambassador Award in 2004 and an honorary degree from the American University in London (Richmond) in 2006.
Dame Amelia, a British and American citizen, was born in Boston, Massachusetts, USA in 1956. She has a degree in History from Wellesley (1978) and a law degree from the University of Virginia (1983). She was admitted to the New York Bar in 1984.
Thomas Deinet
Executive Director
Thomas was appointed Executive Director of the Hedge Fund Standards Board (HFSB) in September 2008. In 2007, Thomas joined the working group to project manage the development of practice standards proposed by 14 leading international hedge fund managers that led to the establishment of the HFSB.
Prior to joining the HFSB, he was a senior manager at Oliver Wyman, where he extensively worked with major financial institutions in Europe covering asset management as well as corporate and investment banking. Thomas also worked as an analyst in energy trading for a major commodities trading firm.
Thomas is a graduate of the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, with a major in industrial engineering and holds an MSc from Purdue University, USA. Thomas is a CFA charterholder.
Zarrina Shakir

Zarrina joined the HFSB in October 2009. She is responsible for overseeing the signatory process and assisting investors in their enquiries, communication, budgetary and editorial matters, research, accounts, the website and HR.
Prior to joining the HFSB she worked in the telecom industry as Business Manager at NEC UK Ltd. Between 1995-2005 she worked as Liaison Officer/ Interpreter for His Highness the Aga Khan. She was also a member of the team responsible for preparing the Aga Khan Development Network's international treaties and agreements for development projects in Central Asia. Prior to that she was Protocol Officer/Translator for the American Ambassador in Tajikistan.
Zarrina has an MBA in International Business Management from the University of Westminster and an MA in English as a Foreign Language, Dushanbe State University, Tajikistan. In addition to English, she is also fluent in Russian and Tajik (Persian).
