Who we are and what we do

The Hedge Fund Standards Board acts as custodian of the best practice standards published by the Hedge Fund Working Group on 22 January 2008.

HFSB Timeline:

  • 2006/2007: G8 policy leaders voice concerns about the financial stability issues in relation to hedge funds
  • Summer 2007: 14 leading managers decide to respond by developing a set of best practice standards to be adopted by hedge fund managers
  • Early 2008: The Hedge Fund Standards are published after extensive industry consultation, the founders commit to adopt them
  • Summer 2008: The Hedge Fund Standards Board (HFSB) is fully established, including a permanent Board of Trustees with strong investor representation
  • Autumn 2008: The UK Financial Services Authority (FSA) lends strong support to the HFSB. "... takes compliance with these Standards into account when making supervisory judgements"
  • July 2010: 60 Hedge Fund Managers from the UK, the US, Europe and Asia have committed to the HFSB.
